It gives me great pleasure to introduce to my listeners-one of the hottest artist in the Southern Soul/R & B music business today.
Introducing Al Lindsey Voted "Best New Male Artist" - 2005 - Southern Soul 'Blues Critic'
The new hit CD, "Caught", #8 - on Blues Critic Top 30 Southern Soul/R &B Albums of 2005!
In 2004, Al Lindsey went back into the studio and released his first CD entitled “Just Chillin”. His remake of the heartfelt ballad “So In Love”, by Leroy Hutson is a favorite of his fans and is requested frequently. He recently joined ranks with Producer Simeo Overall, formerly of Cameo for the hit CD “Caught”. Blues Critic took the opportunity to interview one of the best new artists in soul music today! He's a confident but humble man who is very gracious and extremely talented. The business needs folks like him. The above paragraph is an excerpt of an interview between Al Lindsey and Blues Critic (The Online Home of Blues & Southern Soul). I could not agree with the writer more. The "business" does need folks like him. Al Lindsey is a breath of fresh air for the music "business". Al Lindsey is the real deal. He is sincere about his music-it is evident from the beginning to the end with his latest venture. The CD entitled "Caught " was released in September of 2005, and has been getting folks attention ever since. The writing, arranging and producing are all an excellent piece of work collaborated by some of the best in the music "business". Simeo Overall (producer) and Larry McCray (guitarist) are just in the "right place" at the "right time" for this masterpiece CD, it's a must have in your collection. Last but not least, without the magical voice behind it all, the "SOULFUL" crooner himself, Al Lindsey, as versatile as he can be, from the beginning to the end. When you listen to the first cut on the "Caught" CD, "Take Me Back", Al is really "Caught" in the moment to go back to the way it use to be. Al is simply crooning his heart out, showing his various range of vocal skills. There's also a tribute to Marvin Gaye entitled "Candlelight", definitely to keep your attention, and make you do a double take at listening, the Marvin Gaye influence is there for certain. Guitarist Larry McCray also lends his licks to another ballad entitled "Sorry", another attention getter, a great song. "Sunshine" will inspire you to get up in the morning, again, another beautiful ballad showing Al's various vocal ranges. Just when you think it couldn't get any better, it did. Al steps it up a notch for the party people with "We're Gonna Party Tonight"-a sho' nuff' party song you can get your dance groove on to, for sure to get you on the dance floor. And to bring the CD to an end is another double dose of "Candlelight" (A Salute to Marvin Gaye)-Extended Version. A brief review of what I think of the CD, you be your own judge.
It is a must have in your collection of Southern Soul/R & B. Al Lindsey is a musical force to be reckoned with.........and you can take that to the bank. The best is yet to come. ________________________________________
CD Reviews
Al Lindsey "Caught" (Pulsating Music) **** The Southern Soul world is teeming with talented artists and producers. It's only a matter of time before this genre explodes into the mainstream. Michigan's Al Lindsey could have a hit on his hands with this independent release, "Caught". It's as good if not better than most of what I've heard this year. Possessing a rich, throaty voice with just enough coarseness to shake your soul (think Charles Wilson meets Carl Sims), Lindsey impresses right away on the slow rolling opener "Take Me Back", which even features some tasty guitar licks from Larry McCray. But I was still skeptical 'cuz too many albums start with the best track and steadily decline. Nope, not here. Track two is a marvelous tribute to Marvin Gaye called "Candlelight"; a smooth, sexy n' slow stepper that's imbued by the spirit of "Sexual Healing" (the song also appears as an extended version to close the disc). Ship this to radio now! And while you're at it toss in the headbobbing dancer "Caught (In The Wind)", which has a sugary refrain and great backing vocals by Simeo Overall, who also produced, did the programming and wrote 6 of the jams. (Overall produced Bill Coday's "Jump Start" CD this year as well). Lindsey himself co-produced and wrote three tracks, including the slow Southern Soul gems "Sorry" and "Sunshine". Both are fitting showcases for some aching vocal throwdowns by Lindsey. The arrangement is flawless and "Sorry" again features McCray. Don't lay one on your honey just yet 'cuz Lindsey gets you back on your feet again with the pumping "We're Gonna Party Tonite". But that may be to give a standing ovation and not just to shake your groove thang. Lindsey is an artist to watch and Overall is making a name for himself.
